Since then, Shain and his 70-plus person team have examined more than 6,000 discrete hedge funds in the course of more than 22,000 investigations. BackTrack’s unrivaled institutional knowledge establishes the firm as an industry leader with deep expertise; BackTrack was acquired by talent solutions provider First Advantage Corporation in 2004.

Shain is also the author of the widely-acclaimed book Hedge Fund Due Diligence, Professional Tools to Investigate Hedge Fund Managers. A frequent media contributor, Shain has been a featured expert on due diligence investigations in media including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Forbes and CNN Money. Speaking engagements include leading industry conferences, such as GAIM, Eurohedge and testimony before the SEC.

Prior to launching BackTrack, Shain held senior roles at Bishop Services - a more than 100-year-old investigative firm.
